We are incredibly proud to count Stephen Brown as our current 2023-24 President of Rotary Club of Central Launceston. We heartily congratulate Stephen on his passion for the community and massive contribution to City Mission as CEO.City Mission CEO announces retirement.City Mission North & North West TAS CEO Mr Stephen Brown is stepping down at the end of September 2024. “Whilst I’ve enjoyed every moment of this role, I feel now is the right time to transition, both for myself and from the Mission’s perspective," said Mr Brown.Mr Brown has led City Mission for the past 12 years as CEO and has been instrumental in growing City Mission programs and services, supporting local communities, across the North and North West.City Mission Chair, Tim Holder, commended Mr Brown for his exceptional service and dedication to both City Mission and the broader Northern Communities. "Stephen has done a remarkable job building and strengthening the organisation," said Mr Holder. "Today, City Mission is seven times larger, employing over 210 people, and is supported by more than 450 volunteers." Our Rotary club is made of people with a shared purpose to make our community a better place for everyone. It was our great pleasure to present Louise from Shekinah House funds raised from our golf days.Shekinah house is a volunteer organization that helps homeless people in Launceston. There are many reasons people are homeless, the fastest growing group is middle aged women.Shekina House offers toilets, showers, and laundry four days a week. About 8 people a day use this service. On Sunday evening Shekinah House offers a 3-course meal free to about 30 homeless people. Most of the food is donated. After a shower and helping with laundry people are offered fruit, if needed new underwear, trackpants or a change of clothes.Last month 53 food hampers were donated to homeless people.A Vet volunteers their time to care for pets once a month.Work is in progress in a house in front of the hall they lease to be converted into accommodation for homeless people. The visit was very worthwhile, and it was great to see $15,000 raised from the golf day given to this charity on our visit . ... See MoreSee Less

There are a couple of milestone events in the year of a Rotary Youth Exchange student. One is the presentation to the club about their country, family, schooling and interests plus exchange of club flags. Another is the Aussie trip. Last week Arthur had both! A wonderful presentation and 2 days later departed on the Aussie tour with around 50 students from around the world currently in Australia on exchange. 🌎 🇧🇷 Arthur will be sunsafe in his new Akubra gifted by the club. ... We’re a dynamic club with a proud history over 35 years. Members of all ages meeting every Monday between 1 and 2pm in the city centre. Meetings are action packed including lunch together with an interesting guest speaker to help us keep our fingers on the pulse of what’s happening locally and globally.

Alternatively you can become a Friend of Rotary and sign up as a volunteer for our various programs including assisting on Sally’s Ride and other community events, or direct impact such as helping kids at Ravenswood Heights Primary School learn to read.
